Holidays! Another theme-filled holiday is coming (I mean… you can totally do themed things around MLK Jr. Day but… I have no nail themed things for that) and that means nail art!
The base color, the red, is OPI’s “Color So Hot It Berns” from the Swiss Collection. It’s a nice, warm, creme red. Definitely more orange than blue based. The color doesn’t go towards jelly either, as some reds can do, like OPI’s “St. Petersburgundy”.
For me there is a huge different between a Christmas red and a Valentine’s Day red. I feel like Christmas reds are much deeper, and are mostly not cremes, but shimmers and glitters. Probably because the reds that I gravitate towards during the Christmas time are the reds that are released with the fall collections, and are always those metallic, deep reds. When it comes to Valentine’s Day, I reach for the creme reds because it always reminds me of those red heart boxes, or red satin. Just vibrant, happy reds.
Random tangent aside, that’s why I chose “Color So Hot It Berns”. This was 3 coats. The formula was pretty buttery, smooth and pretty opaque. I used my two favorite top coats, Zoya Armour and Seche Vite and the end result made the red look like beautiful, shiny, plastic. I love it.
For my middle finger, I painted one coat of OPI’s “Teenage Dream” from Katy Perry. I then transitioned Nubar’s “Fire Sparkle” over it until it was a nice, opaque red sparkle at the tip. That was the fun side of Valentine’s for me… the cute little cards kids make, the silly candy hearts. That stuff.
On my ring finger, I diagonally stamped one of the lacy designs from the Konad m57 Plate, with Konad’s Special Polish in White. Under that I painted some China Glaze “Cleopatra” which is a gold sparkle with some silver holographic glitter dispersed through it. And that’s the romantic, feminine, frilly side of Valentine’s for me.
I could have obviously gone with hearts and pink and everything but I don’t like heart designs over red. I’m picky 🙂
